Synopsis
Inside of an electrifying light and sound installation, we venture into a science-fiction odyssey that explores states of transition from this life into the next. 'i have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night' is an installation and performance work that crosses genres to collide the world of the body with an immersive design experience, whereby perspective, illusion and perception are manipulated across time and space. With the sound and lights generated and manipulated in conjunction with and in response to a live external feed, the body oscillates in a liminal space, leaving the viewer to question what is real and what is imagined.
This work was developed at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Centre (EMPAC) at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York in January 2017, via an Australia Council International Residency, with additional support from the Department of Culture and the Arts Western Australia; and STRUT Dance.
