Synopsis ( max 1500): A dusty folk tale based on Hazelton’s childhood as the Cook’s Daughter on the iconic and isolated Melita Station. Exploring a backyard of gibber stone and twisted mulga, lil’ Midge is annoying asshe is small. Surviving eagle strike, mischievous willies and dastardly drought, she ‘gets her mosey on’ in her quest to be useful to all along the way.

Raised on the Goldfields, fostered through Freo folk and finely-tuned by Kimberley country, Hazelton proudly hails from the one-horse town of Boulder, Western Australia. Making up ‘hums’ as the barefoot kid of a station cook, then moving on to a six stringer in their trusty caravan, she never dreamt her little tunes would get her on track to see the world. Since then she has notched up 16 commissions,
11 awards, 4 Stars in the Scotsman and a couple of Isa Browns in a chook raffle. She has played her way to the international stage through an invite to Edinburgh Festival. Prolific and productive, she isalso passionate about songmaking whenever and wherever she can. Recent career highlights include winning WAM Country Song of the Year with altcountry legend Bill Chambers for ‘Melita Station’.

Review Quotes (max 3 quotes): Josie Boyle, respected veteran Aboriginal singer songwriter and Wongutha Elder from the Northern Goldfields said of the show launch 7 May 2017
“The Cook’s Daughter is beautiful and energetic, vibrant and electrifying, soul rendering and poignant. It takes me back to that time and space, but also reminds you and everyone to go back to their own place of belonging, whatever and wherever that is, to find their strength. It was also exciting to have the lovely little songs I made up with Lynn in language in the show”.

Just a special thing from Hazo and crew. A really different story tell, she is as good as a poet as a musician. We all sang along, clapped, gave thanks for the opportunity of the event, and purchased CD's. We were all happy to see it and be it.

Thrilled to catchup with old friend Lynn D Hazelton and Lorraine Coffin and celebrate her beautiful and moving show 'The Cook's Daughter'. The show which is on a WA Country tour is dedicated to the memory, spirit and strength of her mother who was the cook at Melita Station and a host of folk who call this part of the world home.
