Immerse yourself in the sounds of be interesting, give some depth and Mozart by flickering candlelight and fall in love with the world’s best known classical composer. There is something for everyone in this fun and mischievous program.
Perth Symphony’s Mozart by Candlelight is a tour de force of Mozart’s works spanning every emotion. The program celebrates one of the great figures in classical music and brings to life some of the most famous and familiar pieces of music ever written. Insights from Mozart’s life are woven between the music, which shine a new light on the composer, revealing a very human Mozart, as well-known for his cheeky sense of humour as for his sublime melodies. The program also features modern works written in response to Mozart’s legacy – everyone will find something surprising and new in this timeless music. Perth Symphony tours with some of Perth’s most talented soloists, presenting virtuoso works at the peak of their art.
Set on a stage awash with candles, performed by the Perth Symphony String section, this magical Quartet concert will also feature a soloist and depict stories of Mozart’s life giving an authenticity and understanding of the man himself. With interesting and quirky narrated facts about his life, songs and his music performed by professional PSO musicians we will bring the man behind the music to life in an engaging and inspirational way. A 60 minute performance with many recognisable pieces, backed by an incredible vocalist and narration, this is a show for everyone.

Staging and Set Description: The stage will be set with several candelabra and battery powered candles along with chairs (x 9), lectern (supplied).
Lighting requirements: Soft wash stage lighting to supplement a candlelight experience.
Audio requirements PSO will hire and bring Bug mics for each instrument but will need sound technician, additional hand held mics (x 2) and PA (with speakers, floor wedge monitor, audio mixer min 4 channels, all cabling) provided
Other technical or performance notes: 1 local technician (sound & lighting) per venue required

What community engagement is possible with this work:
PSO will deliver 1 or 2 community engagement opportunities per location with up to 4 musicians per engagement, dependent on interest. These engagements will be accessible, engaging and open to everyone. We will work with each venue/shire to ensure the engagement suits the demographic and core interest within the community. The engagements can/will include any of the following options; 1. School Incursion/Excursion – a get to know the musicians and the instruments session with local primary students. Lots of noise and fun. 2. Street Performance – a pop-up performance at local market/hub for the community to enjoy. 3. Community Jam Session – an opportunity for local musicians and those with an interest in music to join professional PSO musicians for a jam session with their own instruments. 4. Upskilling Workshop – A workshop for musicians in the community to be mentored in key performance, writing and arranging skills.
